Hello all!
As Allena mentioned in the meeting on Tuesday, we will be having an Asian Club cosplay day this Friday! Wear your cosplay or wig to school to celebrate Halloween. AFTER SCHOOL we will be meeting in Ms. Dockus's room (where we usually have our meeting) for a quick group photo! Also, all members will wear an "Asian Culture Club" wristband. Before the start of school on Friday (around 7:30 - 7:35) meet in front of the lunch room and pick up your wristband! If you do not wish to come to school early, you can make your OWN wristband. Cut a rectangular piece of paper 3/4" by 1" and punch holes in each side. Then, take a piece of string or a rubber band on one side (so that if you lay it down on a table it's one uniform line), and tie it to the piece of paper through the holes. You should end up with a tag bracelet that says "Asian Culture Club" on the tag! Tell your friends! Hello everyone!
We had a very educational and exciting experience this meeting with our guests from the MSU Silk Road Orchestra. I hope everybody had fun trying out the traditional Chinese instruments (Pipa and Er’Hu) and listening to the musicians’ performance! A huge thank you to the members of the MSU Silk Road Orchestra and to Mrs. Klein for coming over to Okemos High School and presenting us with such a wonderful opportunity. If anybody has any questions for the performers about their instruments or questions for me about similar future events, feel free to email me or send me a message via Facebook! Picture credits once again go to Allie Shears, our resident photographer! Check the link below to see our pictures from the Furoshiki event: http://asianclubohs.weebly.com/photos.html For our next meeting on Tuesday, please bring in the following materials: Origami Paper T-shirt Money: $17.45! I currently have money from the following people: Kaitlin Worthy, Kelly W, Kevin W., Alex Mensah, Hannah Mensah. (George I think you offered me yours but I never got it?). Check the previous email for the T-shirt design -- if you can’t find it, email me and I will send you another copy! Have a great weekend all and if you read down to here, comment/reply pandas! Hello all,
Thank you very much to our guest speaker Saya for coming to Okemos High School and teaching us Furoshiki! I hope everybody enjoyed learning the cultural aspects of Furoshiki and how to do it. If anybody decides to do a Furoshiki craft, please send me a picture and I will post it on the website! Also on the website, I have posted pictures of the Furoshiki instructional placards in case anybody wants to try them out. You can view it from the link below: http://asianclubohs.weebly.com/photos.html Also, I have posted the pictures (Credits to Allie Shears our Asian Club photographer!) from our last meeting with Saya in the same link above. Check them out! The next meeting is next Tuesday, October 27, same time same place. Please make sure to bring the following materials: T-Shirt Money: $17.45. I have included the design for the T-shirt in an email. After we buy our T-shirts, we will have a customization day where you will be given the chance to decorate your T-shirt! The sooner everybody brings in their money, the sooner we can buy our shirts! Origami Paper: I know there have been many false alarms, but for the next meeting, if anybody has Origami paper, please bring it in! Thank you very much to Anjini who brought in Origami paper last week. Bottle Caps: Thank you so much to Eric for bringing in such a huge amount of bottle caps last week! If anybody can do the same thing this week, we will be good to go! If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me! If you read to here...reply “furoshiki.” Hello everybody!
This is a reminder regarding our MSU speaker. Please read down the entire list as it contains IMPORTANT information! The following materials will be required in order for you to participate in this activity, so remember to bring them! Next meeting: Tuesday, October 13, 2015, same time, same place. MSU Special Presentation Required Materials (Pick 2 of the materials to bring):

One of our Leadership Group members will conduct a fun activity with these! Bottle Caps: We still need more bottle caps! We will be using these for a fundraising activity so please bring in as many as possible! Water bottle caps work too! If you’ve gotten this far, comment “cranes!” Hello everyone,
Unfortunately Ms. Dockus won't be able to be at OHS after school, so our meeting for tomorrow is cancelled. Therefore, I have included important information that we would have gone over in the meeting today: VOLUNTEERING: I originally planned to have our first volunteering event this Saturday from 3:30 to 4:30 at Ingham County Medical Care Facility off of Doby Rd. (it's really close to Kinawa Middle school). I'm not sure how many people would be interested in going and be able to go. If you ARE ABLE to come, please email me! Thank you! T-Shirts: Bring $17.45 to the next meeting! T-shirts will help give our club a sense of unity and help identify us as a group when we do our community events. Bottle Caps: We still need bottle caps! Thank you to Anjini and Kaitlin for bringing them in so far :) Origami Paper: If you have any at home, please bring some in! Thank you very much for being so flexible! 今日は!
I hope everybody enjoyed learning basic Japanese phrases with Allena. Don’t worry if you’ve forgotten some of the phrases though -- we will review them throughout the month of October! This is one of our first language lesson type meetings in Asian Club, so if you have any suggestions as to how Allena or I could improve these types of club meetings, comment below or fill out the Contact form with your ideas. An update on things so far: The Mascot Competition results will hopefully be out by the next meeting! If not, I will post the results next week on this blog. Thanks to everybody who created a design! Leadership Positions are almost full, so apply asap! Also, as always, if you have any suggestions or ideas for events Asian Club could do, please contact me! T-Shirts: Please bring in your money for Asian Club T-shirts! $17.45 per person :) Our next meeting will be October 6, 2015 in Ms. Dockus’s room, 2:45pm. Please bring the following materials:
Allena for an AMAZING Japanese language presentation and for introducing us to the Japanese YouTube culture! Kaitlin for bringing in SO MANY bottle caps, and making our beautiful “Join Asian Club” poster! Kaitlin, Kelly, and Hannah for coloring and designing our club meeting poster! Congratulations to Mariah for a wonderful performance during the Homecoming Pep Rally! Hello all! Welcome back to our returning members and welcome to our new members! I hope everybody had a great time at our meeting on Tuesday! In this blog post, I have included the "Welcome to Asian Club" video that I presented during the meeting, so if you have any friends who are interested in Asian Club, be sure to show them the video! For our next meeting, and a few after those, we will be making crafts out of plastic bottle caps and glass bottle caps, so please collect as many as you can. Our next meeting will also be in Ms. Dockus’s room, September 29, 2:45pm. A huge thank you to Cirus Shiran from the Itadakimasu leadership team for bringing in GREENMAX black sesame drinks, Ms. Dockus for helping us organize the drinks, and Olivia Sowa for bringing in plastic cups! Also, congratulations to everybody who sang, and attempted to sing, the Attack on Titan opening theme song! Guuren no Yamiya is difficult to sing, so we'll make sure to practice more. Mascot Competition: The competition has finally ended! Results will be posted sometime after the next meeting! T-shirts: Our current colors for our long-sleeved club shirt are yellow, white, and black. I will present the picture to everybody at the next meeting! Leadership Positions: The social outreach team and Itadakimasu team are still accepting applicants, so if you are still looking for a position, you can apply to one of them! Hello everybody! Thank you for such a wonderful first meeting! The next meeting will be next Tuesday, September 22, 2015 same time same place:
Room: B213 (Ms. Dockus's room, Upper B Hall) Time: 2:45pm Drawing Mascot Competition: Prizes will be given! "Design a character or draw an animal that you think represents/suits Asian Club."
