Thank you to all the following Seniors for an amazing year and helping all the underclassmen meld into the Asian Club community. We'll miss you!
Sydney Grace Baraa Colin (aka Butler) Thank you to everybody who came and brought food to the last food day of the year! While we had a food day earlier in the school year, this one felt so much more personal. Hot pots are often eaten in China with friends and family all around the table, and I feel that this hot pot truly brought us together -- not only as a circle of friends but also as the Asian Culture Club family. Check out the gallery for photos of the event and thank you again to everybody who came to the meeting. Let the hot pot be a yearly tradition!
Once again, Saya from the Asian Studies Center visited OHS! This time, Asian Club learned about the Japanese Tea Ceremony. Although a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony is usually performed while wearing a kimono in a tea room, Asian Club did the tea ceremony in a classroom (see the Gallery for photos). Members split into groups of two and took on the roles of "Master" and "Guest" and conducted the tea ceremony while eating delicious sweet treats. The Master cleaned the bowl, scooped the Matcha, and prepared the tea using a Chasen before handing over the bowl -- decorations facing the guest! -- to the guest, who accepted with a solemn "Arigatou" and "Itadakimasu" -- Thank you and I humbly receive.
Whether it was the novelty of the Chasen or the delicious taste of the Matcha, many students made second cups of the tea while still in the roles of Master and Guest. Learning about the Japanese Tea Ceremony was a wonderful experience for the members and not only did they learn a lot, but they had a lot of fun. Check out the Gallery for all the photos! Many thanks to Mrs. Main for lending Asian Club her room and helping coordinate the event! Also, as always, thanks to Saya for teaching us so much! It is once again that time of year... the scramble for costumes, the horde of makeup, and Sumijaki plushies... it's Shuto Con season! If you have a lot of experience with cosplay or makeup and would like to share your words of wisdom, please fill out a Contact form and we will schedule you as an Asian Club guest speaker! If it's your first time attending a Con, don't worry -- the Shuto Con Leadership group has your back. George and Olivia will be leading the event and the meetings before March 18th, so if you have any questions, feel free to email them using their school emails.
Check your email for more important dates and information! Happy Chinese New Year to everybody and congratulations on a wonderful cultural exhibition! Our table was beautifully decorated with origami and Chinese art; Asian Club is so talented! Many of the children who came had a lot of fun learning how to do Monkey origami and learning about the Chinese New Year. I hope everybody who came was able to experience something new such as seeing the traditional clothes that the Qing dynasty wore or tasting the dumplings that Kevin so kindly brought in.
Thank you to everyone who came! Hello everybody,
I hope all of you had a great Halloween weekend! Thanks to everyone who dressed up on Friday and went to the group photo after school. You can check the photo gallery on the club's website to see the picture. Next week's meeting will be same date, same time, and same location. Drawing team please bring along colored pencils and markers. For the rest of the club members, please read the following: Send me an email with your name and t-shirt size. Also, if you haven't brought t-shirt money ($17.45), please bring it to me by the end of next week (Nov. 6). Any money after that will be accepted but with a $5 late fee. If you want to see the T-shirt design again, feel free to send me an email (t-shirts are long sleeved). Think of a favorite Asian recipe or Asian snack. We will be planning for a food day soon... |
