Once again, Saya from the Asian Studies Center visited OHS! This time, Asian Club learned about the Japanese Tea Ceremony. Although a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony is usually performed while wearing a kimono in a tea room, Asian Club did the tea ceremony in a classroom (see the Gallery for photos). Members split into groups of two and took on the roles of "Master" and "Guest" and conducted the tea ceremony while eating delicious sweet treats. The Master cleaned the bowl, scooped the Matcha, and prepared the tea using a Chasen before handing over the bowl -- decorations facing the guest! -- to the guest, who accepted with a solemn "Arigatou" and "Itadakimasu" -- Thank you and I humbly receive.
Whether it was the novelty of the Chasen or the delicious taste of the Matcha, many students made second cups of the tea while still in the roles of Master and Guest. Learning about the Japanese Tea Ceremony was a wonderful experience for the members and not only did they learn a lot, but they had a lot of fun. Check out the Gallery for all the photos! Many thanks to Mrs. Main for lending Asian Club her room and helping coordinate the event! Also, as always, thanks to Saya for teaching us so much!
